Blue and white peppermint sticks11/23/2023 ![]() Till away to the store on the corner I stole,įor the candy stick striped like a gay barber’s pole. Was a luscious delight of my infantile soul,Įv’ry penny I earn’d in my little palm burn’d, Oh the candy stick striped like a gay barber’s pole, Ĭandy sticks were the subject of an 1885 song called "The Candy Stick": One contemporary account describes broken pieces of stick candy being sold in paper containers, being presented by candy sellers to rural people as something special, and commanding a high price. as early as the 1860s, and the selling of this type of candy (particularly during the carnival season in the warmer months) was described as being lucrative. Stick candy was popular with both children and adults in the U.S. Stick candy has been around since at least the fall of year 1837 when it was shown at the Exhibition of the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association alongside "lobster candy". The Cracker Barrel chain estimates that its stores sell a total length of 940 miles (1,510 km) of stick candy each year. It is often sold in general stores and similar shops specializing in nostalgia items. The candy has a long history in the United States, where it is believed to have been developed, and is often marketed as an "old fashioned" candy. Like candy canes, they usually have at least two different colors (either opaque or translucent) swirled together in a spiral pattern, resembling a barber's pole. Stick candy (also called candy stick, barber pole candy, circus stick, or barber pole) is a long, cylindrical variety of hard candy, usually four to seven inches in length and 1/4 to 1/2 inch in diameter, but in some extraordinary cases up to 14 inches in length and two inches in diameter.

Benchmark ahb2 power amplifier11/23/2023 ![]() A Traditional Class-AB Amplifier Operating at 1 Watt For this reason, it is important to separately examine the first-watt performance. Unfortunately these high-power specifications have no direct relationship to the performance within the first watt. Ironically, amplifier bench measurements tend to focus on the THD+N (total harmonic distortion + noise) at maximum power. For this reason, our enjoyment of the music is largely dependent upon the quality of the delivery within the first watt. In contrast, our ears have plenty of time to detect the distortion that occurs in the low-power spaces between loud transients. The short durations of these transients make it harder to hear the distortion that occurs on these musical peaks. The thump of a kick drum, a note on the bass, or a loud transient from the percussion may approach the output limits of a power amplifier, but very little time is spent reproducing these transients. Distortion can detach us from the performance and give us the distinct impression that we are just listening to sound coming out of a box. Together these effects can detract from emotion and authenticity of the musical performance. In the low power region, it is our opinion that distortion can change the harmonic character of musical voices, clutter the unused frequencies between musical tones, and add a fatiguing harshness. ![]() The Effects of Distortion in the First Watt In any musical recording, the durations of transient peaks are very short relative to the time between the peaks. The first watt is the most important because the amplifier spends most of its time delivering less than 1 watt, even when the music is cranking. Musical Details are Conveyed by the First Wattīetween the transient peaks, most of the important musical details are reproduced at power levels of much less than 1 watt. The peaks are important, but most of the musical details are conveyed in the low power regions between the peaks. With typical recordings, peaks reach 25 to 65 watts while the average music power is just 1 watt. When music is playing at a reasonably loud level on a typical studio monitoring system, or on a home hi-fi system, the average power into the speakers is usually only about 1 watt. Using a double-blind ABX test, we verified that there was a clearly audible difference when the amplifiers drove speakers at an output level of 0.01 watt. One amplifier was a traditional class-AB amplifier, the other was Benchmark's AHB2 power amplifier with feed-forward error correction. In Benchmark's listening room we recently demonstrated the importance of the first watt using two 100 watt stereo power amplifiers.

I've seen the Nick Hope plugin compatibility list and while somewhat useful, I found it to be relatively confusing in that it seems like it is focused towards video plugins which came bundled in Vegas prior versions and trying to show if they work in the newer versions. Can I therefore make a general assumption that if I try out the AE supported version of plugins from other vendors that I would have a high probability they would work in VP16? I'm trying to find some kind of video plugin standard where there seems to be no standard. I just watched this video and noticed the guy selected to us the Adobe AE supported video plugins of GenArts Sapphire plugin. What I'm also starting to see is that most of the officially Vegas pro video supported plugins go back to VP13 and past that it's looking like most of the 3rd party vendors stopped supporting Vegas versions of their plugins. There's no similar standard plugin format for video plugs like DX, or VST for the audio plugins? Is this correct? I'm basing this assumption on that I've seen multiple versions of the same plugin where it shows there's an AE and FCP version. I'm currently, shopping around for some Video Plugins to use with VP16. I'm relatively new to the video side of Vegas Pro and am coming from an audio background.

Profesor zoom flash11/23/2023 Robern strikes Eobard with an elbow to the jaw and arrests Thawne. Several years later, Eobard Thawne then hacks into the Flash museum, but Robern, who now works as a Police officer of the future, catches Eobard. Eobard lost precious time of his schooling, and fell behind his peers in academia because of forced social learning lessons he was mandated to go to with his sibling. Thawne's childhood was a lonely one, and it was made even worse with the birth of his brother, Robern. Incredibly good looking, an IQ of 167, perfect strawberry-blonde hair, but was still a disappointment to his parents. RetconnedĮobard was genetically engineered to be the perfect son. Thawne's mind snapped and he became psychotic. The poster revealed the man's name as "Eobard Thawne". Disorientated and disillusioned from the rough time travel, Thawne saw many posters of Barry Allen killing a man known as "Professor Zoom". As a result, the Treadmill miscalculated the desired time at which Thawne wanted to travel, and sent him a few years after Barry's death in Crisis on Infinite Earths. However, the Cosmic Treadmill had not been used for many years and resulted in it breaking down. He attempted to travel back to the past and leave his time impatiently. This did not matter as he now had a chance to be his revered idol's partner. At the chance of having his face rebuilt, he has it look exactly like Barry Allen, his idol of his entire life, and the hospital expenses cost him the rest of his fortune. However, the planned accident didn't go as planned and left him scarred and mentally unstable. ![]() ![]() Instantly recognizing it, he bought it immediately and tried to duplicate an accident that would turn him into the Flash. One day, Thawne passed an antique shop and saw the Cosmic Treadmill. In the year of 2466, Eobard Thwane inherited a virtuous amount of wealth from his family this would help fulfill his life long dream to be a Flash.

Landscape vs portrait view11/22/2023 ![]() We all share a similar inclination to how a scene should be displayed based on how we see it. ![]() So the terms portrait and landscape orientation are based around the work of artists over the years. The narrower field of view isolates the subject and fits the natural dimensions of their body best. ![]() Artists have always taken note of this and tend to paint people and figures onto a tall canvas. Your eyes naturally isolate the point of interest, and your field of view becomes narrowed. Now when it comes to looking at someone, your eyes shift focus, and everything becomes blurry except for them. This naturally suits a landscape orientation better when it comes to capturing an image. When your eyes are focused far away, you are looking at a wider field of view. That’s why paintings of landscapes or beautiful views are typically painted on wider canvases. Since you want to naturally match the view you see with your eyes, a wide canvas best suits your creative vision. If you were to paint a picture of a wide-open vista, you’d likely want to paint on a wider canvas. Think of yourself painting a picture on a canvas. Why Is It Called Portrait And Landscape Orientation? There really is no ‘wrong’ way to orient your images. Rather than trying to choose one as a be-all-end-all, consider which photo orientation best compliments the composition you’re going for. There really is no set answer as to whether portrait or landscape orientation is best for your photos. It allows you to draw more attention to the foreground while still incorporating the rest of the scene. When used with a wide-angle lens, the portrait orientation can create awesome effects in landscape photography. ![]() For example, taking photos of architecture, or a waterfall are scenarios when a portrait orientation is useful. Using the portrait orientation is a great way to capture more vertically. The landscape orientation is a great way to showcase an entire scene or create a more cinematic feel to your portraits. When shooting in landscape, you can capture a wider field of view that feels more natural to the eye. Think of using portrait or landscape as another element of composition to decide on before you take a photo.ĭepending on the way you choose to orient your image, there are a few advantages you can find. The way you choose to orient your image should be used to help your composition, regardless of the subject. Just because you are taking a photo of a person, doesn’t mean you need to use portrait orientation. Each type will prove more useful, depending on the scene and subject you are shooting. When trying to decide whether portrait or landscape orientation is best for your photography, there really is no clear answer. Landscape format is best to fit more into view and give a perspective closer to what the eye sees. Landscape orientation is when the image is wider than it is tall. This is useful to help capture more of a scene vertically but doesn’t work as well to fit everything into the frame. Portrait orientation is when the image is taller than it is wide. We’re talking about how the picture is oriented! So when you hear the words portrait or landscape format, we aren’t talking about what’s in the photo. Portrait and landscape are most commonly used to describe the orientation of a photo. So what does it mean when someone asks for you to shoot the photo in portrait or landscape? Now obviously, you can tell the difference between an image of a person (portrait) and a shot of a vista (landscape). Portrait and landscape are a photography genre, camera mode, and image orientation all at once! In this section, let’s focus on image orientation. There are actually a few different things that someone could mean when they say ‘portrait or landscape’. Here you’ll learn the practical uses of each, how to be more intentional with the orientation of your images, and more! What Is The Difference Between Portrait And Landscape Orientation? landscape photos and what is best for your photography. This article shares everything you need to know about portrait vs. To learn how to use them purposefully to enhance the composition of your images. What’s most important is to recognize the difference between a portrait and landscape orientation in your photography. Each format has its own advantages and proves more useful in certain situations than others. Choosing between a portrait or landscape orientation can make a pretty big difference in your final photo. Before you snap a photo, there is one key decision you need to make for the orientation of your image.

![]() It would be nice if I could automatically hide the layers that were not being used for whatever UV set I was painting on. ![]() This isn't work-blocking, but it means that with 3 different UV sets I have 3x the amount of layers in one file, and it gets confusing to keep track of. The paint layers of each texture/material/object are completely independent of the others:ģDCoat: I have multiple UV sets but each UV set uses the same texture and layers as the other UV sets. ![]() Each texture has have several paint layers. Substance Painter: Each object has its own material, texture, and UV set. I recorded some gifs showing the Substance Painter's functionality that I wanted to replicate in 3DCoat, and3D Coat's behavior in the same circumstance. I'm following up here in case someone else is searching for the same thing in the future. I got some help on the 3DCoat discord group, and it sounds like the functionality that I wanted does not exist, at least at the time of this writing. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing? This is not ideal - I'd love to be able to only use the layers I need for each material, and to name each layer appropriately. So it appears that 3D Coat allows multiple materials, but they all must use the same textures and layers for those textures. In the "texture editor" panel, I can still toggle between materials in the dropdown, and the texture editor shows the proper texture for these. If I give the second material the same number of layers than the first material, then in 3D Coat the objects that receive both materials stay present. They do still have visibility toggled on in the "paint objects" panel. If I give the second material a different number of layers than the first material, then in 3D Coat all the objects that received the first material disappear. I repeat the process for my second material. I pick the material/UV set in 3D Coat, then In Photoshop I paste my original textures into my "Layers.psd" generated by 3D Coat, then save and close Layers.psd.īack in 3D Coat, the texture reloads and layers for the first material shows up fine. So obviously this one is the wrong choice. If I have toggled off "import tiles as UV sets" when I created the file and toggled off "treat materials as separate textures," then whatever I paint on one part of the mesh also gets painted onto a different part of the mesh. If I have toggled off "import tiles as UV sets" when I created the file, then the materials/UV sets retained their original name. If I have toggled on "import tiles as UV sets" when I created the file, then the materials/UV sets are renamed to 1001, 1002, and 1012. I get a prompt saying "select UV set to export." I use the ctrl+P "send to Photoshop" function to add my previous textures back into the 3D Coat textures. I tried multiple times with different import settings (see step 4).Īll the textures in 3D Coat are gray. I make a new file in 3D Coat and choose "Paint UV Mapped Mesh (Per-Pixel)." I export an FBX from Maya, with "embed media" toggled on. Here is my process and how 3D Coat handles it: I started basic colors and painting in Substance Painter and Photoshop, and I want to do the rest in 3D Coat. I have a character model with one material assigned to the hair, one material assigned to the head, and another material assigned to the rest of the body. Is there a way in the paint room to have multiple materials, each with their own layers and textures, similar to how Substance Painter handles importing a mesh that has multiple materials assigned?

Corel aftershot pro 3 vs picasa11/22/2023 With the new layer selected, turn on Perfectly Clear, then reduce the Opacity slider for the adjustment layer.įorever the optimist, I'm looking forward to version 2 in hopes the programmers will have solved most of its problems. To reduce the intensity of Perfectly Clear, open the ASP Layers Manager and create an adjustment layer. It can quickly improve a lot of photos, but often the adjustment is too much. It's listed under the Standard tab with a box to turn it on or off but no other control. If you're planning to spend a little time with it, I recommend two webinars published last year:ĪfterShot Pro contains a stripped down version of the commercial plugin Perfectly Clear. Faster, just a powerful, subscription-free and nearly half the cost of Adobe Lightroom, AfterShot Pro saves you time and money, and still fits into your Photoshop workflow. In this category, no photo editor saves your more time than AfterShot Pro 3. Research about requested features has been completed and public beta testing is promised before the release of version 2. To handle this large volume of photos, there’s a new class of photo editing software. With the discount only for new customers, the price for version 3 is only 4. To me, that's a good sign for the future of ASP. Corel must really believe their Aftershot Pro version 3s superiority over version 2, to the point of devaluing the latter, even. Because of errors by the suits at Corel, initial strategies were scraped, and the product fell behind its rivals with no new versions.ĪfterShot is now under the guidance of a different product group, the same team responsible for the recently released and much improved version 16 of PaintShop Pro. Manage You can manage your photos via a Lightroom-esque interface that allows for tagging, rating, and a variety of annotations, such as place information. Like some of the other software covered in this overview, Corel Paint Shop Pro is designed for professional photo editing. ![]() Edit photographs taken with a 360° degree camera by straightening a photo with rotation or make it appear levelled. 8 Choice: Corel Paint Shop Pro Score: 6.7. ![]() Combine several photos of the same scene with different exposures to create one stunning HDR photo. ![]() As an enthusiast photographer, I often need to call on several plugins/editors for a particular image project.ĪfterShot Pro was first released in January of 2012. Advance your editing capabilities of RAW files using the pro-level tools of AfterShot Lab, now available in PaintShop Pro. However, I don't use ASP because it limits external editors to one. I have experienced some crashes, but I like AfterShot Pro for many reasons - primarily the speed. ASP has many users who have had few or no problems with it, but you'll find a vociferous group of disgruntled customers at the users group.

Cicada locust11/22/2023 ![]() What should I do to prepare my plants for the swarm? To survive, cicadas need to show up in such massive numbers that their many, many predators just can't eat them all. So the only serious evolutionary defense cicadas have against extinction is their sheer numbers. If something wants to eat a cicada, chances are, it will. And despite having wings, they don't fly especially well. ![]() Making matters worse for individual insects is the fact that they have virtually no way of fending these predators off. Many predators will completely change their behaviors during cicada years just to feed on them. Birds, reptiles, fish, spiders, wasps and even household pets all see cicadas as protein-packed snacks. Once a cicada emerges above ground, it faces no shortage of predators. Michael Williamson/The The Washington Post via Getty Images Cicada shells lay at the base of a tree in Chevy Chase, Maryland, in 2004, the last year Brood X was seen. Such a hybridization would reduce the size of these generations - bad news for a species that needs large numbers to survive. Another theory says the prime-numbered cycle reduce the likelihood that 17-year cicadas will mate and hybridize with cicadas of different species or generations. ![]() One idea suggests that the unusual, prime-numbered lifecycle prevents generations of cicadas from run-ins with the lifecycles of wasps that prey on them. The exact reason behind the number 17 is unknown, but scientists have a few theories. The less often cicadas emerge from the earth, the lower their odds of being wiped out by an unusually cold summer. A brood can't survive a cold summer above ground, but surviving a cold summer below ground is no problem. So cicadas evolved different cycle lengths to improve their odds of survival. That's a problem for cicadas: If the temperature lingers too long below 68 degrees, it gets too cold for them to mate and survive. Back then, summers could be unpredictably cold in the eastern United States. So why do cicadas only show up in 17-year cycles?Īs it turns out, those long cycles are part of the cicada's evolutionary strategy that dates back 1.8 million years, to the Pleistocene Epoch. Most insects, love them or loathe them, make annual appearances in our homes and gardens. Brood X is endemic to much of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and Eastern Tennessee. You can see the areas with the most frequent sightings in the map below. Through history, it has appeared as far west as Missouri, as far south as Georgia, as far north as Michigan and as far east as Long Island, New York. The coming Brood X (that's Brood 10 in Roman numerals) is the most widespread and prolific of the known generations. (One of these "missing" broods, Brood XI, was last seen in Connecticut in 1954.) For example, Brood IX, the brood that emerged in 2020, was localized to parts of Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.Ī few of these broods have never been formally observed, suggesting that they may have gone extinct long ago. Theoretically, there should be 17 different generations of 17-year cicada, each linked to a different geographic zone and a different emergence year.
